EUGENE MERL HARLESS Born January 6, 1935 in Victoria, Texas to Earl Thomas Harless and Otha Mae (Jones).Passed away Monday September 20, 2010 at home, in the arms of his loving wife. Grandpa Gene was a very loving and devoted man whose family was everything to him.Gene was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters, and 1 brother. Gene is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 56 years, Shirley Ann Harless, 7 children, 13 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Services will be 1 PM Friday September 24, at the First Baptist Church of Choctaw.

Ardnol Paul Harless
(November 9, 1915 – July 26, 2010)

Funeral services for Ardnol P. Harless will be conducted Friday, July 30, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. from the Martin Funeral Chapel of Elk City with Rev. Roger Woodson officiating. Interment will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of the Martin Funeral Home of Elk City.

Ardnol Paul Harless was born November 9, 1915 at Elk City to William Brown and Flossie (Belknap) Harless and passed away Monday, July 26, 2010 at the age of 94. He attended Merritt Schools and was married to Velma Hasty on June 1, 1940 and they continued to live in the Merritt Community. Mr. Harless worked in the Merritt School System and retired after some 50 years of service. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter, Kimberly Jean Harless and 3 brothers, C.D., Arthur and Cecil.

Survivors include his wife: Velma of the home, 3 children, Linual Harless and his wife Penny of Oklahoma City, Loretta Brewer and her husband Kenneth of Carter, Denise Thornton and her husband Billy of Delhi, 7 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Arlene B. Harless, 78, of Saville Twp., Elliottsburg, died Saturday, June 5, 2010 as the result of an automobile accident.

She was born Oct. 21, 1931 in Juniata County to Alton and Sally (Swartz) Comp.

She had worked for the former Newport Dress Factory and enjoyed gardening and flowers, cooking and bird watching.

She was the widow of Maj. Jerry Harless, Floyd Mauk and Harry Campbell.

Surviving are two children, Brian T. Mauk and Sue E. Snyder, both of Elliottsburg; three brothers, Dale and Glen McNaughton, both of Elliottsburg, and Wayne McNaughton of Shermans Dale; three sisters, Ethel Sledzinski and Cynthia Pickel, both of Shermans Dale, and Aletha McGowan of Holiday, Fla.; and four grandchildren, Luke Snyder, Charles and Catelyn Kimmel and Ben Mauk.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, James, Carl, Bruce and Frank McNaughton; and two sisters, Annie Fry and Marie Crockett.

Services were held June 15 in David Myers Funeral Home, Newport. Burial was in Newport Cemetery.

Charlie Clinton Harless LONGWOOD, Fla. Charlie Clinton Harless, age 84 , passed away Sept. 29, 2009, at Lake Mary Health & Rehabilitation Center in Lake Mary, Fla. Born May 3, 1925, in Russell County, Va., Charlie had lived most of his life in the Abingdon/Bristol area moving to Florida in 2003 to be near his daughter and son-in-law. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee Harless and Gertude Caudell Harless; two brothers, Ira Harless and Warren Harless; and one sister, Eileen Harless Dove. Mr. Harless was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving as a torpedoman’s mate on PT Boat 345 in Squadron 25 during World War II. He was honorably discharged when his tour of duty was over in 1946. He was an active member of the community taking an interest in youth sports activities by officiating baseball and football events. He retired from Raytheon Corporation as a tool and die maker/machinist in 1987. He was a member of VFW Post 6975 in Bristol Tennessee/Virginia and was a master mason in Zollicoffer Masonic Lodge 444 in Bluff City, Tenn. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Helen Tate Harless of Longwood; his daughter and son-in-law, Valerie and Mike Bennett of Longwood; and his son and daughter-in-law, Dean and Beth Harless of Marietta, Ga.; three siblings survive him, Clarence Harless of Bristol Tennessee, Evangeline Singleton of Church Hill, Tenn., and Mary Harless of Abingdon, Va. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Chris, Caitlin and Kim Harless, all of Marietta; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Alfred Henry Louis Harless, age 82, of Faunsdale, died Sept. 24, 2009, at Woodhaven Manor Nursing Home in Demopolis.

Mr. Harless was born May 21, 1927, in Tuscaloosa County to the late James Daniel and Eliza Crocker Harless.

He is survived by his loving wife, Irene Watkins Harless of Faunsdale; two sons, Alfred Harless (Linda) of the Mount Hermon community in Greensboro and Danny Harless (Rita) of Faunsdale; one sister, Levis Waldrop of San Diego, Calif.; four grandchildren, Lance Harless, Jim Harless, Peggy Harless, and Jenny Duncan; and five great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009, at the Mt. Hermon Cemetery with the Reverend Trish Brunner officiating and Kirk Funeral Homes Greensboro Chapel directing.
