Narrows, Va. – Charles William (Bill) Harless, 57, of Narrows, passed away suddenly Saturday afternoon, September 13, 1997 in the Carillion Giles Memorial Hospital in Pearisburg.
A lifelong resident of Giles County, he was born at Pearisburg on October 20, 1939 and was the son of the late Charlie Lafayette Harless and Mrs. Dorothy Harless Tomlinson of Blacksburg, Va. He was preceded in death by a brother, Henry L. Harless of Pearisburg. At the time of his death he was an employee of the Celanese Acetate Fibers Company Plant at Narrows for 35 years. He served four years in the U.S. Air Force as a medic and was a member of the United Methodist Church in Pearisburg.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include: his wife of 38 years, Peggy Meadows Harless of Narrows; three sons and daughters-in-law, Malcolm W. (Mac) and Donna W. Harless of Pulaski County, Va., Charles G. (Chuck) and Penny L. Harless of Pearisburg and William J. (Joe) and Cheryl N. Harless of Rich Creek, Va.; a daughter and her fiancee, Lavetta H. Huddle of Narrows and Randy D. Orren of Fairlawn; a brother, Harry V. Harless of Bel Alton, Md.; two sisters, Betty H. Lynch of Bayboro, N.C., and Barbara H. Williams of Bowie, Md.; eight grandchildren and two special boys very dear to his heart, Chrissi Huddle, Kelly Harless, Jake Harless, Andy Harless, Cassie Harless, Josh Harless, Emily Harless, Anthony Harless, Emily Harless, Anthony Harless, Ryan and Bradley Orren; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nephews and nieces and many friends.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Riffe’s Funeral Service Chapel in Narrows with Rev. Paul Terry and Rev. Tommy Ramsey officiating. Burial will follow in the Harless Family Cemetery, Broad Hollow, Pearisburg.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Tuesday.
Those who wish to meet the family to express their sympathy and condolences may do so from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
