     Eventus Leroy Surfus was born on 29 October 1857 in Bristow, Butler County, Iowa. He was the son of Peter John Surface and Lucinda Weller. Eventus Leroy Surfus married Anna Jane Clark, daughter of Patrick Clark and Elizabeth Clarke, 1 May 1880 in Wolf Lake, Noble County, Indiana.
