Last Will and Testament of James Burwell Harless

State of West Virginia, County of Kanawha and town of Marmet.

I, J. B. Harless, with a sound mind on this the 24th day of February, 1914 in the presents of Albert Hearrold and J. C. Leavens, make my last will and testament to-wit: at my death I hereby make the following disposal of my property:

W. B. Harless, C. D. Harless, Flora Evines and Sybil Harless are to have an equal part of my estate, Improvements to be considered. Sybil Harless is not to come in possession of his part untill he reaches the age of 21 years. In case I should not live I here by name W. B. and C. D. Harless as his Guardian untill he does reach the age of 21 years.

My full meaning of this document is that the Four above named heirs shall shear and shear alike.

P. S. In case that Sybil Harless should die without leaving heirs of his own. His part shall be divided equeal among the other three heirs above mentions.

At a regular session of the County Court of Kanawha County, continued and held forsaid County at the Court House thereof on Saturday the 21st day of March, 1914.

A paper writing purporting to be the last Will and Testament of J. B. Harless,  deceased, late of said County, was this day presented to the Court for probate, and the same being duly proven by the oaths of C. A. Harold and J. C. Leavens, the subscribing witnesses thereto, the said paper writing is admitted to probate and ordered to be recorded as filed as and for the last will and testament of the said decedent.

Charlotte Evelyn Bush Harless Obituary

Evelyn Bush Harless, age 80, of Granite Falls, passed away at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care in Hudson. Our beautiful mom passed away, Wednesday, September 7, 2011. She was born January 19, 1931 in Caldwell County to the late Doyle Bush and Alma McRary Bush. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Bud Bush.

Mrs. Harless retired from Fairfield Chair in 1989. She was a member of Lenoir Community Church, and attended Solid Rock Baptist Church.

Mrs. Harless is survived by five children, Pamela Harless of Granite Falls, Jeff Harless and wife Maria Jo Harless of Manheim, PA, Hal Harless and wife Martha Clawson Harless of Kernersville, NC, Andrea Harless and life partner, Tracey Kern of St. Petersburg, FL and Matt Harless and wife Catherine of the U.S. Air Force; sister, Pat Fox of Cornelius; two cats, Maja and Littlebit; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at 4:00 p.m. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Jerry Stines and Rev. Jon Cameron. Interment will follow at Union Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Serving as pallbearers will be: Robert Harless, Jonathan Harless, David Harless, Steve Tolbert Jr., Lee Resor and Rustin Clawson.

Honorary pallbearers will be James Harless and Tim Clawson.

The family respectfully request donations and memorials be made to: Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care, 902 Kirkwood St., Lenoir, NC 28645.

Arlene B. Harless Obituary

Arlene B. Harless, 78, of Saville Twp., Elliottsburg, died Saturday, June 5, 2010 as the result of an automobile accident.

She was born Oct. 21, 1931 in Juniata County to Alton and Sally (Swartz) Comp.

She had worked for the former Newport Dress Factory and enjoyed gardening and flowers, cooking and bird watching.

She was the widow of Maj. Jerry Harless, Floyd Mauk and Harry Campbell.

Surviving are two children, Brian T. Mauk and Sue E. Snyder, both of Elliottsburg; three brothers, Dale and Glen McNaughton, both of Elliottsburg, and Wayne McNaughton of Shermans Dale; three sisters, Ethel Sledzinski and Cynthia Pickel, both of Shermans Dale, and Aletha McGowan of Holiday, Fla.; and four grandchildren, Luke Snyder, Charles and Catelyn Kimmel and Ben Mauk.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, James, Carl, Bruce and Frank McNaughton; and two sisters, Annie Fry and Marie Crockett.

Services were held June 15 in David Myers Funeral Home, Newport. Burial was in Newport Cemetery.

Charlie Clinton Harless Obituary

Charlie Clinton Harless LONGWOOD, Fla. Charlie Clinton Harless, age 84 , passed away Sept. 29, 2009, at Lake Mary Health & Rehabilitation Center in Lake Mary, Fla. Born May 3, 1925, in Russell County, Va., Charlie had lived most of his life in the Abingdon/Bristol area moving to Florida in 2003 to be near his daughter and son-in-law. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee Harless and Gertude Caudell Harless; two brothers, Ira Harless and Warren Harless; and one sister, Eileen Harless Dove. Mr. Harless was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving as a torpedoman’s mate on PT Boat 345 in Squadron 25 during World War II. He was honorably discharged when his tour of duty was over in 1946. He was an active member of the community taking an interest in youth sports activities by officiating baseball and football events. He retired from Raytheon Corporation as a tool and die maker/machinist in 1987. He was a member of VFW Post 6975 in Bristol Tennessee/Virginia and was a master mason in Zollicoffer Masonic Lodge 444 in Bluff City, Tenn. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Helen Tate Harless of Longwood; his daughter and son-in-law, Valerie and Mike Bennett of Longwood; and his son and daughter-in-law, Dean and Beth Harless of Marietta, Ga.; three siblings survive him, Clarence Harless of Bristol Tennessee, Evangeline Singleton of Church Hill, Tenn., and Mary Harless of Abingdon, Va. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Chris, Caitlin and Kim Harless, all of Marietta; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Anna Gae Harless Obituary

Anna Gae Harless, 76, of Alkol went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, July 5, 2005, at home after a short illness.

She was a member of Bear Branch Church of Christ and was a retired teacher’s assistant with South Western Community Action Council, Lincoln County, for 25 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Willard and Mary Miller; sisters, Opal Thurmond and Betty Egnor; brother, Billy Miller; son, Lyle Harless; and grandson, Paul Miller.

She is survived by two daughters, Roseanna Asbury of Alkol and Linda Bowling of Madison; son, Michael Miller of Alkol; sister, Mildred Adkins of Alkol; two brothers, Don and Dorsey Miller, both of Alkol; grandsons, Jeff and Mike Miller, Shane and Chad Bowling, Anthony Harless and Jackie Asbury; great-grandson, Reece Miller; and great-granddaughter, Bobbi RaeAnn Miller.

A special thanks goes to hospice care workers, Sally Starkey, Donna Farr and Jody Huffman.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday, July 8, at Bear Branch Church of Christ, Alkol, with Minister Brian Barrett and Minister Ronnie Linville officiating. Burial will be in Bear Branch Cemetery, Spurlocksville.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, and one hour prior to service at the church.
